Valsartan
Manufactured by over 30 different companies, valsartan is a generic blood pressure medication designed to improve an individual's chance of living longer after a heart attack.
Doctors prescribe the medication to post-heart attack patients who experience problems with their heart's left ventricle.
However lawsuits claim toxic chemicals, including nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) and N-Nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA), have been found in batches of valsartan, leading to severe health problems and cancer in consumers of the blood pressure medication.
The valsartan-containing drug combinations valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), Amlodipine and valsartan, and Amlodipine, Valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) are all part of the drug recall but the FDA is continuing to investigate the toxicity of other valsartan medications.
This large-scale recall of valsartan medication has since led to multiple lawsuits on behalf of individuals who took NDMA or NDEA tainted medication.
Since 2018, hundreds of batches of valsartan and related blood pressure medication were recalled by the valsartan manufacturers, with potentially thousands of valsartan lawsuits needing to be filed.
